Kono Children Education Foundation (KonoCEF) Sierra Leone is a community based organization (CBO) registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs in Freetown and Koidu City, Kono District and is also a registered 501 (c)3 non-profit in the State of Maryland, United States.
KonoCEF is concerned with achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Goals Four and Five: 4) Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all 5) Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls MissionKonoCEF’s mission is to enhance the quality of life of girls and women in deprived communities in Kono District through ensuring sustainable, inclusive, educational support programs and addressing the cultural, religious, gender, age or social class barriers to girls’ education. latest NewsMenstrual Hygiene Day - May 28, 2020
On May 28th, Konocef volunteers honored Menstrual Hygiene Day by spreading awareness about menstrual health among young girls in local neighborhoods around Koidu City. The aim of this sensitization was to highlight the shaming of young girls because of their menstrual periods and to teach them best practices for hygiene and minimizing or preventing vaginal infections.

KONOCEF VOLUNTEERS TURN UP AT THE 2ND ANNUAL KDEA AWARDS, December 2019
On Wednesday evening, December 18th, the prestigious Diamond Lodge Hotel just outside of Koidu Town was shining in bright lights as hordes of onlookers celebrated dozens of honorees at the second annual Kono District Excellence Awards (KDEA).
Winners included several Sierra Leone prominent personalities, politicians and celebrities, such as Umaru Fofanah, a popular BBC correspondent, Hon. Emerson Lamina, minority leader in Parliament who received a lifetime achievement award, and community based organizations such as the Bikers Union and Kono Artists Union. For the second year the civil society best recognition went to NMJD. Kudos to our Konocef student volunteers were on hand assisting the event organizers, hotel and technical staff with the overall smooth functioning of the event. edit.
